How to Save Money on Air Conditioning Costs

During the summer period when the temperatures begin to increase, the air conditioning helps in making the houses comfortable to live in. As this happens, your electricity bills begin to rise due to the increased consumption.

The easiest way to save on electricity bills is to simply turn off the AC! But this is not possible as it would make life very difficult. The humidity and temperature would get so high that it would become very difficult to even breathe in the absence of the AC.

However finding ways to save the money on the air conditioner bills is not that difficult. It is just a matter of searching for the alternatives to keep your residence cool and purchasing an air conditioner which is just powerful to cool your house.

Firstly, the size of your AC and the room to be cooled are very important to achieve proper cooling. It is of no use to purchase a big and powerful air conditioner if the same is to be used to cool just a small room. You will spend more money on the energy bills as well as AC as it will have to work too hard to keep the room cool!

When you purchase an air conditioner, just see for the energy star rating. It is better to buy one having a SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) number of 13 or more. You may have to pay some more but then your running expenses would be lower in the long run.

You can make savings up to 15 % in your electricity bills by using a rated air conditioner. If you have an old air conditioner, you can consider replacing it with a brand new AC with a SEER rating.

There are many other factors which can assist you in saving your money on the AC costs. You must install a thermostat which is programmable as it will permit you to change the temperatures if you leave your house and in many other similar circumstances and this will benefit you by reducing your electricity costs.

It is very beneficial to switch on your air conditioner in the mornings when high humidity and hot weather is usually expected. This way you prevent your air conditioning unit from working too hard and consume lots of energy in the process. It is also a great idea to set the thermostat on a higher point when you leave your house to avoid any unwanted cooling. You can again set it to a lower point once you return home to achieve the desired cooling.
