How To Fix A Broken Refrigerator
Fixing a broken refrigerator does not have to difficult. You just have to find out what the problem is and how you can best solve the problem. Personally repairing your broken refrigerator can save you a lot of money. Seeking the help of a professional repair person in fixing your fridge can be a little expensive.
1. Fix broken ice maker
If your fridge has an ice maker and it is not working well in producing ice cubes, it could be broken. Sometimes, the ice maker will only work in producing tiny shards of ice.
The first thing you need to do is to remove the ice maker from the freezer. Unplug your fridge first and detach the wiring harness. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that secure the ice maker inside the freezer. Check the inlet tube for the ice. Remove clogged ice inside the tube. This can block the flow of water. Make sure you remove debris inside the tube. Also check the saddle valve and make sure that it is not clogged. You might have to replace the inlet valve of the machine. This is what turns the water supply on and off. If it is broken, the machine will not work in delivering water to the ice maker.
2. Fix a leaky fridge
If puddles of water seem to be coming out of the fridge, this can be caused by a clogged icemaker or water dispenser. To check if the ice maker is clogged, use the steps mentioned above. You should also check the dispenser. Find out if the hose that supplies water to the dispenser is clogged. Disconnect the hose from the fridge and clean it. Also check the water filter of the machine. If debris has already accumulated, you would want to replace it.
3. The machine won’t cool
This can be caused by a poor condensation inside the machine. You have to check the back portion of the fridge where the condenser coils are located. You might have to clean this area if dirt and cobwebs have already accumulated. This is needed to exhaust hot air outside the machine.
Also check the rubber gasket if it is sealing the door of the fridge tightly. Open the door of the fridge and insert a dollar bill before closing it. Pull your money and find out if there is no resistance. If you can pull it out easily, you probably need to replace the rubber gasket. It is no longer working in sealing cold air inside the refrigerator.
